United Therapeutics

Creating a data-driven experience in one of the largest net-zero structures in the US.

United Therapeutics Unisphere

Fueled by a drive to innovate, biotech company United Therapeutics, led by visionary CEO Martine Rothblatt, wanted to build a first-of-its-kind headquarters that was both a reflection of its values and a space to unite around a shared purpose. They enlisted HUSH to design a digital/ physical, artistic and informational experience for the “Unisphere,” the world’s largest, most intelligent sustainable building, specially created to communicate the amount of energy used in the building with the amount of renewable energy generated onsite.

Inspired by this environmental mission, HUSH created a large, sundial-like sculpture called the “Energy Dial” that collects real-time data from the building itself and translates it into rays of light, demonstrating the ebb and flow of net-zero forces. Even further, they brought the building to “life” by constructing a multi-touch interface that demonstrates the energy state of each system within the building, allowing workers to collaborate to predict (and help neutralize) future energy-consuming behavior.

In the end…

By crafting a multi-layered narrative experience, HUSH showcased the complex net-zero ecosystem at play within the building and reminded employees and visitors of their purpose and responsibility as caretakers of the environment. T his collaboration also reflects the shared belief in the power of data-driven experiences as brand expression.
